In this book, Adrien Parlange evokes the great moments of one's existence. These moments, like decisive leaps and bounds, do not affect all ages; they focus on love, friendship, thrills, upheavals, persistent impressions, echoes of happiness and failure. The album fixes them with cut-outs that are so many windows open to memories, which coexist and write the story of a life. The author has developed an original device to better serve the poetry and the universality of his subject.

    Drawing A Tree

    , ,
"Perfection, says an old oriental proverb, is beautiful but stupid: you have to understand it but break it. Now that you know how to draw a tree, as I think you do, there's no need to slavishly follow what I've shown you. Once you know the rule, you can draw the tree of your choice, completely different from the ones you've seen in this book. You can draw them with a pencil, a pen, a felt-tip market a paintbrush, crayons, chalk, a piece of brick, charcoal, your fingers. powders, chocolate, a shaving brush or a broom. You can make them out of paper, stiff card, corrugated board, packing paper, wire mesh, plastic, non-plastic, papier-mâché, wire, brass, aluminium, string, spaghetti, cloth, whatever you want. And then, above all, teach others how to do it". — Bruno Munari In Drawing a tree Munari teaches us how to run our hand to draw trees: how they change with curved lines, where to put the crazy branches, how many trunks to draw... Drawing a tree is one of the books from the Workshop series that describes different working, techniques, from educational to explanatory pamphlets and “poetic” play... With basic explanations and plenty of stimuli, suggestions and maps to get adults and children, teachers and students working together.

A Golden Thread | The Prutscher Collection of Viennese Children’s Books 1900-1938

    ,
Architect and designer, Otto Prutscher was a member of the most important art and craft movements of the early 20th century, from the Wiener Secession to the Werkbund. His collection of children's books, gathered in the early decades of the 20th century for his daughters Helly and Ilse, is a mirror of the Viennese culture at the turn of the centuries - a golden thread that walks us through the streets and cafes of the "city of dreams," through music, literature, art and architecture. More than 140 children's books to which are added 13 leporellos, 178 postcards, drawings and print proofs, donated in 2022 to the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense by Beba Restelli, granddaughter of Otto Prutscher and daughter of Ilse. The collection includes titles by great authors such as Hoffmann, Brentano, Mörike, and Wilde, and illustrations by artists such as Richard Teschner, Marie (Rie) Cramer, and Carl Otto Czeschka. A Golden Thread. The Prutscher Collection of Viennese Children's Books 1900-1938 brings together a very large sampling of images, and traces, through the close connection between Prutscher and his birthplace, the history of Vienna from the declining years of an empire to the idealism of a socialist experiment, to the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany.

    Basello – Castiglioni in 2 sec. Flip-book

“We can speak about industrial design in different ways: talking about or drawing an idea, through a critical essay, staging a show, with images, audio-video or, why not, with a new type of language as in this flip-book. I have been asked several times to write a book on the stories surrounding my father Achille’s designs, including anecdotes and episodes related to my family sphere. In this first project I wanted to ofer, in two seconds, one story of industrial design. Respecting the irony of an extraordinary father, I wanted to bring to light some lesser-known details of his, my and our private life, translating what I normally do when I talk about his projects into graphic form.” – Giovanna Castiglioni This flip-book is dedicated to Basello, a mobile piece of furniture designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1978. Its function can be declined in many ways: a desk, a bedside table, a ladder, a seat... eventually evolving into the mobile bookcase Joy. This volume was selected by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory as an example of the best Italian design put into production.

    When the Shadows Lengthen

“Do you hear the silence? Silence makes noise… and among the advancing shadows, silence is in the longest wait.” An incredibly delicate colour palette brings us back to the warmth and atmosphere of sunset on a hot summer’s day. Written and illustrated by Giulia Vetri, When the Shadows Lengthen is a book that reminds us of the importance of contemplating silence and the art of waiting. Starting with a poem written by the author on a long summer day spent at her grandmother’s house in the Italian countryside, this book details the many moments that mark the arrival of evening inside and outside the walls of a house surrounded by hills, trees, and rivers. Something happens on every page, and yet every action, every gesture, speaks above all of the silence that surrounds everything, in the tranquillity of sunset and as the shadows lengthen.

    Paper Poems

“My life as an artist began alone in a room with colored paper and scissors creating shoes from tissue boxes and elaborate but flimsy cities for my animal figurines. Cutting, folding, and arranging paper remains my first language in color and form and the first step in my design process from furniture to websites, book layouts, typography, and more. With scissors I carve out the shapes of animals and objects from memory, investigating which lines and curves contain the gist. In this issue, the private meditations that fuel my design process are gathered as standalone works—poems made of paper.”

A tender and joyful game of hide-and-seek for little ones!

Through the timeless game of hide-and-seek, newborns begin to connect with others—appearing and disappearing as a way of becoming more aware of their own existence. Baby delights in sparking surprise, gentle worry, and laughter; in pretending to be invisible; and in the joy of being sought after. The wardrobe, a pile of toys, or even the cat’s basket—every corner of daily life can turn into a hiding place.

The game unfolds across 17 double-page spreads, alternating between scenes where Baby is (not very well) hidden and scenes where Baby reappears. With warmth and humor, Pauline Martin portrays a mischievous, playful child who never tires of repeating the game—reminding us how the simple pleasure of repetition helps little ones grow.
